William (Bill) Lee Junkans died peacefully at home in Coupeville Jan. 7, 2005. Bill was born in Oakland, Calif., May 26, 1922. He attended Oakland High where he excelled in sports breaking all records as a star athlete in high and low hurdle track racing. He always had an open mind to health and fitness and this led him to working out in body-building with his friend Jack Lalane.
He also spent quality time in the countryside of Clearlake Highlands with his family where he learned to love and appreciate nature.
Bill loved his country and worked for the Navy shipyard in Alameda, Calif.
His life work started in a family owned auto business in Redding, Calif., which expanded him into a career with IngerSoll-Rand as a sales engineer for the northern territory of California. This work suited him because of his love of traveling, discovering out of the way places and meeting new people. He also loved to water ski and scuba dive.
Bill is loved and will be missed by so many. Regarding his neighbors, he was always a giver and not a taker. Everywhere he went there were fun stories and a good joke to share. He was well known for his love of animals and birds on the Island of Whidbey. He always stood for the rights of the animals and the protection of the environment with his great compassion for all living things.
He leaves his wife, Elise, and his three daughters from a previous marriage, Kathy, Kari and Lori. Also, granddaughters, Pam and Casey, nephew Michael, great-nephews Kevin and David and a new great-great niece, Isabelle.
As requested by Bill, there will be no funeral or services.
