William H. Brandenburg

Bill “Brandy” Brandenburg, age 85, died at Whidbey General Hospital Aug. 15, 2006. He was born Nov. 18, 1920 in Dahlgren, Virginia to William and Ethel Brandenburg.

Bill joined the U.S. Navy in 1944, which was his first love… in 1948 he met and married his second love, Mildred. Together they traveled with the Navy, ultimately landing on Whidbey Island in 1956. If Bill loved anything more than the Navy and as much as his lovely Millie, it would have been their two children, Alan and Marilyn.

In 1969 Bill retired from the Navy as a Chief and soon went to work for Mercury Service, the aircraft fueling company at NAS Whidbey. He was not the kind of person that could just sit around the house, so when he left one job he found another. Bill was also a lover of country music, especially Johnny Cash and Hank Williams, Sr. On April 23, 1990 Bill lost the true love of his life, Millie.

Bill belonged to the Fleet Reserve, American Legion and the Elks. He was a true patriot and believed in his country. He was proud of his service and did more than talk about it… He lived it. He also attended the Assembly of God Church in earlier years and more recently became a member of Whidbey Presbyterian Church.

Bill is survived by his son Alan in Mount Vernon and his daughter Marilyn with husband Pete Buehn of Puyallup, along with sisters Florence and Iona of Florida. He is also survived by 2 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service for Bill Brandenburg will be held at the Whidbey Presbyterian Church on Monday, Aug. 21, 2006 at 1 p.m. followed by military honors and a reception at the church. Arrangements were entrusted to Burley Funeral Chapel.
