Viv T. (Vivian Thomas) Kidd

Viv T. (Vivian Thomas) Kidd

To watch Viv gather with family and friends was to behold a man whose wealth was measured in relationships. What a remarkable contrast from his humble beginnings. His father – a tobacco sharecropper – died when Viv was three. His three older brothers’ life span was limited to 19 to 32 years of age. Life separated him from his mother and sister. By the time Viv died April 23, 2009, at the full age of 94 his life and countenance had grown well beyond his beloved wife Brig of 62 years and their children Tom and Debbie and their families.

Viv, born in 1915, grew wealthy in relationships – business associates, extended family, Lions Club members, golfing partners, grandchildren and their friends were blessed by his faithfulness, commitment and humor. He never met a potluck unworthy of his attention, a golf game that could not evoke a story or a Sunday worship service that did not renew his spirit. All the more remarkable given an almost total absence of patience.

Throughout his life his church was his spiritual home. Following the sale of their business, Global Moving and Storage in 1983, Viv and Brig made Coupeville their home. Their waterfront home became the unofficial center of the universe for grandchildren, nephews and nieces, in-laws of all sorts, church gatherings and reunions that would require name tags.

Viv loved his God, his wife Brig, children Tom Kidd and Debbie (Kidd) Flajole, daughter-in-law Brenda, son-in-law Chuck and grandchildren Jason, Jhennifer, Jocelyn, Erin and Joshua.
