Virginia R. Hoover, 92, died Dec. 13, 2004 at Whidbey General Hospital, Coupeville. She was born Sept. 19, 1912, in Muskogee, Okla., to John and Lulu Mae (Fowler) Reber. Following high school, she attended Draughan’s Business College. Virginia was married to Fred W. Hoover, who was also an Oklahoma native.
Fred served with the U.S. Navy during World War II and then joined Crane Packing and Machine Company, working in the oil fields. Virginia followed his career in the oil business. With Fred’s retirement, the Hoovers left the East Coast and settled in the Mariner’s Cove area of Oak Harbor in the late 1970’s.
Virginia was always known as an elegant Southern lady and a great hostess who loved to entertain. She was an active part of the Mariner’s Cove neighborhood. She was also a very talented musician who enjoyed singing, dancing and playing the organ. Her husband Fred of Oak Harbor survives Virginia.
In keeping with Virginia’s wishes, no formal funeral services will be conducted. Cremation was held with private family inurnment to follow. Arrangements are entrusted to Burley Funeral Chapel.
