Valerie Ann Harret

Valerie Ann Harrett, a long-time resident of South Whidbey Island, ended her life course on March 25, 2007 at 4:15 p.m. after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. “Val” was born Valerie Ann Bennett, the only daughter of Peter and Laura Bennett of Trail B.C., Canada. All were exceptionally fine, loving people that are dearly missed by their many loved ones.

As a teen in 1951, Valarie immigrated into the United States with her parents and soon after married her childhood love David Harrett in January 1952. Married 55 years, Valerie and David raised four children, Paul, Peter, Andrea and Christian, followed by 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Valerie grew spiritually as she matured, professing her faith in God, trusting in His promise of a resurrection as described in the Bible. She was a beautiful woman that didn’t know it, intelligent beyond her education, always dignified, sweet with a wonderful sense of humor. Even more, a lifelong friend to David, a loving mother to her children and grandchildren, a talented artist, decorator, gardening enthusiast, homemaker and animal lover. She was happiest when at home with David, her family, animals, arts and crafts. Her laugh echoes in our minds, while her sweet nature warms our hearts forever.

Services were held March 27 at Visser Funeral Home. Interment was in the Langley Cemetery.
