Thomas G. Nourse

Thomas G. “Pat” Nourse died at HomePlace Special Care Center in Oak Harbor, March 14, 2003.

Pat was born in Langley, May 25, 1923, to Thomas O. and Mae (Murtha) Nourse. He graduated from Langley High School in 1941 and a short time later enlisted with the United States Navy. He served on landing craft during WW II in the South Pacific. In 1946 he returned home and went to work with the New England Fish Company in Alaska.

On Feb. 21, 1948, he married Lucille Dorothy Thompson at the Little Brown Church in Maxwelton. In October of 1948 he went to work for Civil Service at Whidbey Island Naval Air Station in transportation. In 1978 he retired as the Superintendent of Transportation with 30 plus years combined Naval service.

Pat was active in sports throughout his life. He had participated on the Langley town basketball team, and had played on several softball teams, including Maxwelton, Midvale, and the South Whidbey teams. He had also enjoyed playing horseshoes and bowling, boating, horses, golfing, and fifth-wheeling.

Pat was a member of the Holmes Harbor Rod and Gun Club, the South Whidbey Masonic Lodge No. 218, the American Legion Post 141 of Langley, Oak Harbor Elks Lodge No. 2362, and he was a past member of the Useless Bay Golf and Country Club, the South Whidbey Lions Club, and the Maxwelton Volunteer Fire Department.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Lucille of Freeland; three daughters and their husbands, Sandy and Jim Grimes of Clinton, Candy and Jonathan Hatch of Lakewood, and Cindy and Richard Ostrom of Boise, Idaho; five grandchildren, Matthew Erikson and his wife Stephanie, Tommy Erikson and his wife Lorena, Katie Ross and her husband Shawn, Kelly Grimes and Dana Grimes; by one great-granddaughter, Ella; and four step great-grandchildren, Jay, Nia, Bethany, and K.C. Pat is also survived by 15 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Mae Nourse and his special uncle Sid Nourse and by three sisters, Bernie Mackie, Mavis Nourse, and Betty Olson.

Memorial services will be held at the Little Brown Church in Maxwelton (now known as Maxwelton Christian Fellowship Church), Wednesday, March 19, at 1 p.m. Chaplain Fred Renfroe will officiate. Private family inurnment services will be held at a later date at the Bayview Cemetery. Remembrances may be made to Home Health Care of Whidbey General Hospital or your favorite charity. Arrangements were gratefully entrusted to Burley Funeral Chapel, Oak Harbor.
