Sylvia Belle (Sanders) Iraola

Sylvia Belle (Sanders) Iraola, 80, long-time resident of Oak Harbor, passed away on July 12, 2010, in her daughter’s home in Stanwood of Parkinson’s disease. Sylvia was born in Fullerton, N.D., on July 28, 1929, the third child and sole daughter of four children. Her family moved to Washington when Sylvia was in grade school and she graduated from Hoquiam High School in 1947. She married Albert Iraola and began the life of a Navy wife moving every few years, working as a bookkeeper/secretary, finally retiring in Oak Harbor.

Sylvia was an artist, an avid reader, a gardener and a great Scrabble player. She is survived by her only daughter, Crystal Colombo; her son-in-law, Richard Colombo; her four grandchildren, Justin Iraola, Genevieve Matokovic’, Craig Colombo and Tomislav Matokovic’; and her great-grandson, Brodi Matokovic’. She also has many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and a huge extended family that called her “Grandma” or “Aunt” Sylvia.

Her Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 13, at St. Aidan Episcopal Church, 1318 E State Rd 532, Camano Island with graveside service at Maple Leaf Cemetery in Oak Harbor at 4:30 p.m. A Celebration of Sylvia’s life will follow the interment at her home in Oak Harbor. She will be missed.
