Sydney W. “Syd” Glover, 79, a 34-year resident of Coupeville, died June 2, 2005 at Whidbey General Hospital.
Mr. Glover was born in Victoria, B.C., on Jan. 31, 1926, to Sydney Glover and Amy (Blakey) Glover. He was raised in Victoria, and attended the University of British Columbia in Victoria, and then the University of Washington, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Urban Planning. He served for a time in the Canadian Army.
On June 9, 1959, Syd married Carol Kiser in Olympia. The couple lived in Longview, Aberdeen and Ocean Shores before moving to Coupeville in 1971. Syd was employed as the Island County Planning Director for 12 years. He was a member of the Central Whidbey Lions Club, the Central Whidbey Little League, and the Admirals Cove Beach Club. He enjoyed playing piano, golf and hockey. Was known as a great piano player, being “quite a character” and for expressing his opinion.
Syd is survived by his wife Carol and five children: Wendy Reavill and husband Rick of Bellingham, Suzette Worden and husband Alex of Irvine, Calif., Steven Glover and wife Tammy of Coupeville, Stacy Glover and husband Wayne Harrell of Long Beach, Calif., and Shari Schulle and husband Bryan of Oak Harbor; and six grandchildren, Triesha Campbell and husband George of San Pedro, Calif., Alexa and Stevie Glover of Coupeville, Bryce, Blake and Makenzi Schulle of Oak Harbor and Austin Harrell of Long Beach, Calif.; and one great grandchild, Kaili of San Pedro. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Shirley.
The family held a celebration of his life on June 7 at The Cove at Captain Whidbey.
