Shirley L. Akins, longtime resident of Oak Harbor, passed away July 5, 2004. She served in the U.S. Navy, followed by a career in government service. She is survived by her children, Cynthia Fletcher of Oak Harbor, Michael Akins of Grandview and Victoria Davis of Carlsbad, Calif., and Andrew Akins of Coupeville. Nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and her brother, Barry Hall, of Italy also survive.

A memorial celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 10, at Oak Harbor Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to North Puget Oncology Cancer Care Center, 1211 24th Street, Anacortes WA 98221.
