Sandra Rose Sherwin, 65, passed over the Rainbow Bridge on March 11, 2005, after a brief illness. She was born in 1939 to George and Lenore Sherwin of Cutbank, Mont. After graduating from high school in Butte, Mont., Sandi moved to Los Angeles where she graduated from Stanford University in 1970 with a degree in psychology.
While living in Los Angeles, she taught mathematics in a private school, worked as a statistician, restaurant manager and freelance photographer. She also owned and managed two small apartment complexes.
During the 1970s and 1980s, Sandi traveled extensively through Europe, South America and Asia. After moving to Coupeville in 1989, she promptly became active in town affairs by serving on the Planning Commission and Town Council. Sandi was also active in the League of Women Voters, serving as president in 1996.
She served as president of the board of directors of Whidbey Animal Improvement Foundation early in its inception. She continued to be a faithful volunteer for WAIF to the very end, working at the Cat Adoption Center in Oak Harbor. Sandi had an intense love for all animals and managed to do a great deal for their benefit.
Sandi is survived by her sister, Shirley Seehorn and her husband Lloyd, and their large extended family in Rockford. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends and the animals she loved so much. Remembrances in Sandi’s name may be made to WAIF, 20168 Highway 20, Coupeville WA 98239.
