Sandra Lee “Sandi” McAninch

Sandi McAninch, 53, died at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle on Jan. 26, 2007. She was born Oct. 30, 1953, in Rockhill, S.C., to Howard and Alice Gilmore.

Sandi’s family moved to Oak Harbor in 1966. She graduated from Oak Harbor High School in 1971 and later that same year she married Wayne McAninch. In 1973 the family increased in size to three with the birth of John, followed in 1976 with the birth of Ben.

To say that Sandi loved sports would be an understatement of grand proportion. She lived for the opportunity to watch her boys play baseball and loved to umpire games. She was the first woman umpire in the Oak Harbor association. She loved professional and college sports and was an avid Seattle Mariners fan, as well as a University of Washington Husky football fan. Her love of sports also went on to bowling, where she held a lifetime high score of 269.

Family was of the utmost importance to Sandi. She worked from her office at home, managing the day-to-day operations of AA Electric, the business she and Wayne owned, so she was always there when the boys came home and there to prepare meals for the family, another love of hers.

Sandi is survived by Wayne McAninch of Oak Harbor, son John McAninch with wife Stacia of Wildomar, Calif., son Ben McAninch with wife Norianne of Oak Harbor, and three grandchildren: Kelsey, Sammy and Joshua. She also leaves her father Howard Gilmore of Oak Harbor, sister Patty Amos with husband Jim and brother Rick with wife Connie.

A memorial service for Sandi will be held at Burley Funeral Chapel on Thursday, Feb. 1, at 2 p.m. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers friends may send a donation in Sandi’s name to Harborview Burn ICU at 325 9th Ave, Box 359840, Seattle, WA 98104.
