Sally Joy Albright Merrill: February 24, 1929 – March 26, 2022

Sally Joy (Albright) Merrill passed peacefully on March 26, 2022, in Oak Harbor, WA with her husband at her side. She had suffered a stroke and was home in Hospice care.

Sally was born in Newark, New Jersey to Horace and Helen (Volker) Albright on February 24, 1929, and was raised by Helen and her stepfather Leslie F. Whelan. In 1950, she graduated from Wheaton College, Massachusetts witha bachelor’s degree in Chemistry. Following college, she moved to California to work in a lab at UCLA. On October 6, 1958, she married her husband, John. They had three children and raised their family in southern California. When the children were grown, she worked as a secretary at her husband’s geology firm. In 2007, they retired to Whidbey Island.

Sally is survived by her husband of 63 years, John D. Merrill, Stuart A. Merrill, and John (Debra) D. Merrill, Jr., six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She will be remembered for her love of books, her dry sense of humor and a zest for travel. At her request, no services were held.
