Ruth “Mickey” Ellis passed away in Oak Harbor on Dec. 16, 2006. She was born August 11, 1915, in Peterson, Utah, the daughter of Lafayette and Naomi Heiner.
She grew up in Morgan, Utah, graduating from Morgan High School in June 1933. After high school she went to work at a canning factory where she met Darrell Ellis. They were married on Sept. 17, 1937, in Salt Lake City, Utah. The family relocated to Oak Harbor in June 1950 when the family’s new business venture, the Roller Barn, opened.
Mickey was a very loving person and her family always came first. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and she loved cooking, sewing, gardening, skating and golf. While her children were in school she was a supportive volunteer; also, spending many years as a kitchen cook for the Oak Harbor School District. She enjoyed 91 years of good health and appreciated her many helpful friends and neighbors.
She is survived four sisters, Thelma Leak, Marva Rix, Joyce Fisher and Faye Detherage; three sons, Leslie of Bellevue, Stephen and wife Stephanie, Jeff and wife Susan, all of Oak Harbor; and 12 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by sister Alice, brothers Mareon, Donald and Bruce, daughter Joan, son Michael and husband Darrell. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Public Viewing will be from noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20, at Burley Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 21 in the Church of Latter-day Saints on 201 NE O’Leary Street, Oak Harbor. Graveside services will follow at Maple Leaf Cemetery.
