Ruby Virgie Kummert, 87, died May 21, 2003, in Oak Harbor. She was born July 18, 1915, in Brandon, Ore., to James R. and Frances L. (Koos) Benn. As a young child, Ruby moved with her family to Olympia, where she stayed for much of her life. She eventually moved to Petersburg, Alaska, Brookings, Ore., and Lancaster, Calif. She returned to Olympia, making it her permanent home.

Three husbands preceded ruby in death. She loved bowling, playing pinochle, was active with the Olympia Grange and the Elks lodge, but most of all, loved her family. In March of 2001, she moved to Oak Harbor to be with her family.

Ruby is survived by one son William F. Kelly of Lancaster, California and one stepson, Fred Kummert, Jr. of Oak Harbor.

Cremation was held with private family inurnment to follow. Arrangements are under the direction of Burley Funeral Chapel, Oak Harbor, Washington.
