Roberto Valenzuela Mortales, 64, of Oak Harbor, died March 11, 2007, in Oak Harbor. He was born in Cabatu-an, Iloilo, Philippines, on May 5, 1942, to Pedro Marmolejo and Susana Linan (Valenzuela) Mortales.
After graduating high school, at age 17, Roberto moved to Olongapo City where he worked at the Naval supply depot at Subic Bay for the next 30 years. It was there he met Clara Lacaba, and they were married on Jan. 20, 1971.
In 1997 they moved to Oak Harbor where Roberto worked at McDonald’s and at the Navy Exchange Seaplane Base. He became a U.S. citizen on Oct. 28, 2003.
Roberto enjoyed gardening and loved Seattle Mariners baseball. He was very friendly and his smile will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife Clara of Oak Harbor; children Lucita M. Corey and Junie M. Yoshimoto of Oak Harbor, Clarita M. Sunga and Orlando Mortales of the Philippines; Ponkoy, Marlon, Sonny and Che Che Mortales of the Philippines; 13 grandchildren; his mother Susana Valenzuela Mortales; brothers Renato and Danilo Mortales of the Philippines, sisters Teresita M. Manatad, Bernardita M. Celendro, Remedios V. Mortales and Anna Paguntalan of the Philippines, and Rebeca Mortales of Sterling, Va.
Viewing will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday, March 15, with funeral services the following day at 10 a.m., both at Burley Funeral Chapel in Oak Harbor.
