Robert Nelson: May 11, 1940 – June 30, 2018

Robert E. “Bob/Bobby” Nelson, born May 11, 1940, in Minneapolis, Minn. and sadly left us on June 30, 2018.

Robert graduated from St. Michaels High School in Arizona in 1959 and from the U.S. Army Officer Candidate School, Ft. Benning, Ga. in 1966. He lived for many years with wife Marcia in Delaware Township, N.J., Olathe, Kan. and Oak Harbor.

Robert served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam from 1967 to 1968, receiving a Purple Heart, a Bronze Star and a Combat Infantrymen’s Badge among other decorations.

Robert’s interests were varied: road trips, photography, computers, music and gardening to name a few.

Robert is survived by wife Marcia, of 50 years, daughters Bonnie and Rebecca; granddaughter, Layla; grandsons Liam and Mika; brothers Marvin, Don, Larry, Mike, Tom, Jeff and John; sisters Kathy, Susan and Donna Jean, and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents Patrick and Betty and first wife Kathy.

Funeral services will be held at a later date with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C. The Nelson family suggests donations in Bob’s name may be made to Disabled American Veterans, www.dav.org.
