Robert Louis ‘Bob’ Ewing died Jan. 17, 2006 at the age of 52 after a long battle with cancer. He was born Feb. 14, 1953 in Tulare, Calif., to Edward and Dorothy (Dunn) Ewing. He attended schools in San Francisco and graduated from Richmond High School, Richmond, Calif.
Robert entered the U.S. Navy at the end of the Vietnam War. He served aboard aircraft carriers, the USS Kitty Hawk and the USS Constellation. He taught fire-fighting schools at NAS Lemoore and NAS Whidbey Island. He retired at NAS Lemoore on June 30, 1992 as a Chief Petty Officer. He was currently employed at the Navy Exchange as a service writer. Robert loved camping, golfing and the Oakland Raiders.
Robert is survived by his wife of 31 years, Debra at the family home in Oak Harbor; and by five children and their spouses, Christine and Thomas Jones and Sandra and George Place of Oak Harbor, Diana and Joshua Foy of Antioch, Calif., and Patrick Ewing and Michael Ewing, both of Oak Harbor. He is also survived by two brothers, Eddie Ewing of Phoenix, Ariz., and Walter Ewing of Everett; and two sisters, Melinda Reddin of Boulder, Nev., and Kathy Rodriguez of Lemoore, Calif; and six grandchildren, Kyanne Jones, Jeneva Jones, Hailey Ewing, Julia Ewing, Marrisa Ewing and Anthony Foy. His parents and one grandchild preceded him in death. He was a loving husband and father who will be deeply missed.
Funeral services for Robert Ewing will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Oak Harbor on Saturday, Jan. 21 at 2 p.m. Military honors will follow under the auspices of the NAS Whidbey Island Honor Guard. Private family burial will follow at Maple Leaf Cemetery, Oak Harbor. Arrangements are entrusted to Burley Funderal Chapel, Oak Harbor.
