Robert E. Spencer

Robert Eugene “Bob” Spencer, 82, died Aug. 27, 2007, at Whidbey General Hospital. He was born Aug. 3, 1925, in El Dorado, Union County, Ark., to Harry Henry and Sarah Ethel (Thomas) Spencer.

Bob entered the U.S. Army Air Force in 1943, serving in World War II. When the Air Corps became the U.S. Air Force, Bob continued his service, serving in the Korean War. He retired from the Air Force in 1963 as a Tech Sergeant (E-6).

Bob held many jobs following his retirement. He eventually began a second career, working for Island Drug of Oak Harbor for many years. He was also a member of the Citizens On Patrol (COPs) division of the Oak Harbor Police Department. Bob was also an amateur hypnotist. Bob had been a member of the Oak Harbor First Baptist Church for many years.

Bob is survived by his wife Erlinda and his son Daniel Harry Damian Spencer, both of Oak Harbor. One sister Rose Douville of Salmon Arm, B.C., brothers, Thomas Spencer (Flarine) of Great Falls, Mont., and Don Gunderson of Edmonton, Alberta and one stepson, Dan Mahoney of Castle Rock, Colo., also survive. He was preceded in death by sister Juanita and brothers Harry, Lionel and Howard.

Love lives on forever in the memories, in the stories, in the hearts of all whose lives have been touched by Robert, a very special person. The heart has memories that time cannot erase.

Visitation for family and friends will be on Tuesday, Sept. 4, at Burley Funeral Chapel from noon to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Burley Chapel on Wednesday, Sept. 5, at 1 p.m. Full military honors will follow under the auspices of the McChord Air Force Base Honor Guard. Cremation will follow the services. Arrangements are entrusted to Burley Funeral Chapel, Oak Harbor.
