Robert Davis

Robert Earl “Bob” Davis, 63, died suddenly at Whidbey General Hospital on April 22, 2002. He was born Jan. 23, 1939, in Berryville, Ark., to Harley and Edna (Irwin) Davis. He was raised in Berryville and at the age of 17 enlisted in the U. S. Navy.

Mr. Davis served several tours of duty in Vietnam, as well as assignment in Germany, Thailand, the Far East, California and Florida. He was transferred to Whidbey Island Naval Air Station where he completed his active duty. Bob was medically retired from the Navy on May 14, 1976, as an ADR-1 (E-6) with more than 20 years of service.

Bob Davis began a second career in 1976, forming Bob Davis Construction Company. He did his own excavation, foundation work, construction and finish work, in a turn-key type operation. Bob was also a talented craftsman, building custom furniture. He continued working in spite of his disability.

Robert Davis was married to Marilyn Woods in Coupeville on July 6, 1978. He was a life member of the VFW Whitehead-Muzzall Post No. 7392 of Oak Harbor, the American Legion Post of Lacey and Disabled American Veterans.

Mr. Davis is survived by his wife Marilyn at the family home, Oak Harbor; by eight children: Terry Ingram (Rodney) of Malin, Ore.; Sherri Ann Folkner of Seattle; Robert Davis (Diane) of Vine Grove, Ky.; Margaret Davis; Mary Sherman (David) of Oak Harbor; Lisa Greenough of Livermore, Calif.; Allison Carchedi of Kent, and Walt LeBoulanger of Nacogdoches, Texas. In addition, he is survived by one brother, Harley Davis, Jr. of Seattle; two sisters, Madge Davis of Three Rivers, Texas, and Maxie Carol McGinnis of Nixa, Mo.; and by 18 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. One son, Douglas LeBoulanger, preceded him in death.

Mr. Davis requested no public funeral services be conducted. Private family services were held at Burley Funeral Chapel followed by cremation. Private family inurnment will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be sent to Oak Harbor Christian School Foundation at 675 E. Whidbey Ave., Oak Harbor, WA 98277 in the name of Robert E. Davis. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Burley Funeral Chapel.
