Richard Lassiter

Richard Henry Lassiter, 71, died Jan. 23, 2004, at his home in Oak Harbor. He was born Nov. 2, 1932, in Atlanta, Ga., to William R. and Rose (Maddox) Lassiter.
Richard Lassiter was raised in Atlanta, where he graduated from Murphy High School in 1950. While in high school, he was active in sports, especially in football. Following high school, he attended Georgia Tech and the University of Georgia. He was married Jan. 26, 1952 to Laurie Patricia Flannery in Athens, Ga.
Mr. Lassiter worked for Western Electric and Westinghouse as a draftsman and elevator salesman. He then began his career with Montgomery Elevator Company where his work as a sales manager and branch manager took him to Miami, Fla.; Kansas, City, Mo.; Salt Lake City, Utah; Seattle; Fort Meyers, Fla.; Hartford, Conn.,; Boston, Mass., and Laurel, Md., before he returned to Atlanta.
Richard Lassiter left Montgomery Elevator for a time and formed Lassiter Brothers Construction Company with his brother Henry Lassiter. He also sold real estate for Buckhead Brokers and following retirement, he worked as a school bus driver for special needs children.
Mr. Lassiter moved to Oak Harbor two years ago. He and his wife attended Oak Harbor Southern Baptist Church. He enjoyed gardening and RV’ing.
Richard Lassiter is survived his wife Patt at the family home, Oak Harbor; by three children, Richard Lassiter, Jr. and wife Jan of Denver, Colo., Michael Lassiter of Oak Harbor and Lauren Lassiter of Asheville, N.C.; and his four grandchildren, Elliott, Lee, Rachel, and Sam. Two brothers, Nolan Lassiter of Snellville, Ga., and Milton Lassiter of Corniela, Ga., and four grandchildren also survive. Two brothers, William R. Lassiter, Jr., and Henry A. Lassiter preceded him in death.
Memorial services will be held Thursday, Jan. 29, at 11 a.m., at Oak Harbor Southern Baptist Church with Pastor Robert McDougal officiating.
