Richard “Dick” Dwight Gourley: December 8, 1937 – October 26, 2022

Richard “Dick” Dwight Gourley, 84, of Mount Vernon, peacefully passed away on October 26, 2022, surrounded by loved ones, after a battle with Parkinson’s disease.

Dick was born in 1937 to Richard Dwight and Alysse Elizabeth in the bustling city of Tacoma. After Dick graduated from Stadium High School, he then spent time in the Coast Guard and earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Washington; where he pledged to the Phi Gamma Delta (FIJI) fraternity where he cultivated many lifelong friendships. After graduation, he worked in the grocery industry for over 30 years, spending the majority of his career at Thrifty Foods as a store manager and grocery buyer.

In 1983, he married Janice Jenkins and blended their families. Dick happily retired from Thrifty Foods in 1995. While retired, Dick and Janice divided their time between Tucson and Whidbey Island, where he took the time to pursue his love of golf, fishing, and traveling with his wife and his dogs.

Dick was predeceased by his parents, Richard Dwight and Alysse Elizabeth. He is survived by his wife Janice; daughters Alysse Albert (Peter) and Jean Yarrow (Mike); sons Ken Jenkins, Ron Jenkins, and Padraic Gourley (Jankey); granddaughters Natalie, Karolina, Erica, and Jainaba; grandsons Kevin, Jason (Selina), Shawn, Bubacarr, and Jonathan.

Dick will be laid to rest on Friday, November 4, 2022, in a private family ceremony. On Saturday, December 3, 2022, the family welcomes friends and loved ones to an open house to celebrate Dick’s life from 12-3 pm at the Burlington Community Center, at 1011 Greenleaf Ave., Burlington, 98233.
