Remedios Sattler

Funeral Mass for Remedios S. Sattler was celebrated Monday, Jan. 6, 2003, at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church, Oak Harbor with Rev. Ronald Belisle Celebrant. Visitation for family and friends was held at Burley Funeral Chapel, Oak Harbor Sunday, Jan. 5, 2003, with a Vigil Service. Cremation followed with family inurnment to be held at St. Jose’ Church, Novatos, Manila, Philippines.

Remedios Sablan “Remy” Sattler, 65, died at her home on Oak Harbor on Jan. 2, 2003, with her family at her side, following a long battle with cancer. She was born May 4, 1937, in Manila, Philippines. to Engracio and Trinidad (Alonzo) Sablan.

Mrs. Sattler was raised in the Philippines. She received her bachelor’s of science degree in commerce from University of the East in the Philippines. In 1972, she moved to the United States. She settled with family in South Carolina for two years and worked as a bookkeeper. She then moved on to San Francisco, where she worked as a bookkeeper for Bank of America.

Mrs. Sattler was married to Thomas H. Sattler in Redwood City, Calif., on May 23, 1975. As a military wife, Remedios followed her husbands’ military career, moving to Mountain View, Calif. While there, her daughter Sandra was born. The Sattler family was transferred to Whidbey Island Naval Air Station and then to China Lake, Calif. In 1983, the family returned to Oak Harbor, making this their permanent home.

Mrs. Sattler was a member of St. Augustine’s Catholic Church and St. Elizabeth’s Guild. She was an avid gardener and an excellent cook and loved to entertain. Being with family and friends was very important.

Mrs. Sattler is survived by her husband, Thomas at the family home, Oak Harbor and one daughter Sandra Sattler of Ithaca, N.Y. One brother Efren Sablan of Hayward, Calif.; by two sisters Ofelia Escribano of San Diego, and Lourdes Marquez of Claremont, Calif. and by her mother Trinidad Alonzo of the Philippines also survive.
