Randolph Haigh

Randolph “Randy” Haigh, 88, a 26-year resident of Oak Harbor, died at Whidbey Island Manor on Feb. 12, 2002.

Mr. Haigh was born in New Denver, B.C., Canada, on Dec. 19, 1913, to Reginald Haigh and Millie (Lomas) Haigh. He was raised in Nelson, B.C., where he graduated from high school. Following high school graduation, he was employed at Consolidated Mining and Smelting Co., in Trail, B.C.

On July 9, 1936, Randy was married to Mary Morrison in Trail. He entered the Canadian Army, and served his country during World War II. Following his honorable discharge, the couple moved to Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, where he was employed as a truck driver for three years. In 1949, they moved to Southern California. Mr. Haigh was employed by California Motors as a truck driver until his retirement.

They moved from Anaheim, Calif., to Oak Harbor in 1976. He enjoyed playing pool at the Oak Harbor Senior Center.

Mr. Haigh is survived by his wife Mary, at home in Oak Harbor; one daughter, Janet Haigh of Oak Harbor; one granddaughter, Holly Chadwick of Oak Harbor; also, one sister, Kathleen Quaas of North Vancouver, B.C. He was preceded in death by his brother, Douglas Haigh.

A memorial service will be Saturday, Feb. 16 at 2 p.m. in Burley Funeral Chapel, Pastor Marshall McBride officiating. Private inurnment will be held at a later date.
