Powell J. Lee

J. Lee Powell died Sept. 10, 2005 at Lynden Manor. He was born on August 5, 1922 in LaVeta, Colo. After serving in the Navy, Lee moved to the Pacific Northwest in 1950. He was married to Nola Clark on June 9, 1951 in Concrete Wash., and moved to Oak Harbor in 1955 where he worked as a civilian employee of NAS Whidbey, retiring in 1982. Lee and Nola moved to Lynden in 2000.

Lee was a member of the Lynden United Methodist Church. He was known as a very hard working and creative man. Lee enjoyed wood-working and carpentry. He always seemed to be making something for family members and friends. He was a true gentleman, very devoted husband, and a father with a kind heart and a wonderful sense of humor.

He is survived by his wife Nola, his children: Roy and wife Belinda of Edgewood, Wash., Rod and wife Margi of Tigard, Ore., and Glenn and wife Linda of Lynden; and seven grandchildren.

A Memorial Service in celebration of Lee’s life will be held Saturday, Sept. 17, at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church of Lynden, 500 N. 14th St. A reception will follow the service.
