Pernina Hammond

Pernina I. Hammond, 88, of Coupeville, longtime former Newport resident, died July 19, 2005 at Careage of Whidbey.

Mrs. Hammond was born in Everett on Nov. 22, 1916, to Henry Mattson Potter and Inez Bondolin (Wagner) Potter. She was raised in Snohomish where she graduated from high school. She was married in Dec. 1934 to Noble Vernon Hammond. They lived first in Bremerton until 1947, when they moved to Snohomish, and then Newport. She was employed as a dishwasher for several restaurants in Newport. Mr. Hammond passed away in 1972. In 1984, Mrs. Hammond moved to Snohomish, where she resided until 1996, moving then to Everett, Anacortes and Oak Harbor before coming to Coupeville in 1999.

She is survived by her son, Monte Hammond and wife Gayle of Birch Bay; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Elizabeth Harkness of Sioux Falls, S.D. and Juanita of Everett; also, several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her twin sons, Barry “Big” Hammond in 1993 and Gary “Tiny” Hammond in 1998, as well as by her husband in 1972.

In keeping with her wishes, no services will be held. Inurnment will take place in Newport at a later date.
