Pearle Costello

Pearle L. Costello, 84, an 11-year resident of Oak Harbor, died at Whidbey Island Manor on Feb. 13, 2002.

Mrs. Costello was born in Menlo, Kan., on July 22, 1917, to Linley Greene and Daisy (Clark) Greene. She was raised in Menlo, where she graduated from high school. On June 15, 1937, she married Donald F. Costello in New Almelo, Kan. The couple spent most of their married lives in Novato, Calif., where Pearle was employed as a secretary for the California Housing Authority. They moved to Anacortes in 1978, and from there to Oak Harbor in 1991.

Pearle was a former member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Anacortes, and a member of St. Augustine’s Catholic Church. She was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi and the Italian Catholic Federation. She enjoyed playing organ, making ceramics and sewing.

Mrs. Costello is survived by her two daughters, Judy Edinger and husband Timothy of Oak Harbor and Kay Nyholm of Santa Rosa, Calif.; five grandchildren, Shannon Edinger of Ephrata, Kerry Edinger at Oregon State University in Corvallis, Michael Nyholm, Jeffrey Nyholm and wife Meg and Stephen Nyholm and wife Denise, all of Santa Rosa, Calif.; seven great-grandchildren, Kyle, Kasey, Emily, Caleb, Paul, Claire and Kate Nyholm; one brother, Elbert “Bud” Greene of Phoenix; also, numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Donald on March 14, 1998, and by several brothers and sisters.

Visitation was held Feb. 16 from 9 until 9:30 a.m. at Burley Funeral Chapel, followed by a funeral service at 10 a.m., Rev. John J. O’Leary officiating. Interment followed at Maple Leaf Cemetery.
