Patricia Westland

After 79 years of a rich vibrant life, Patt Westland died Aug. 12, 2004, surrounded by her family at her summer home on Whidbey Island. Patt was born Patricia Ann Simons in Aberdeen Feb. 8, 1925, daughter of the late George and Opal Simons. She met the love of her life and best friend, Wes Westland, at Washington State University and they recently celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary.

From swimming the cold waters of Puget Sound to skiing the snow-covered mountains in Colorado, Patt was known to her family and friends for her enthusiasm and zest for life. During her lifetime she wore many hats as an educator, bookkeeper, business owner, civic leader, volunteer, benefactor and homemaker. Her greatest pride was being a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Having lived in many communities in eight states and with a passion for traveling abroad during her active lifetime, Patt touched many lives and has close friends throughout the U.S and world.

Patt will be dearly missed by Wes and their two daughters and their families: Wendy and Gary Ayars and their children Drew and Shannon (Ben) Pelkey; Pam and Ron Genuario and their sons, Jeff (Elizabeth) and James (Kristy); as well as a sister, Judy Sheppard. Patt recently became a great-grandmother to Jordan and Joshua Genuario.

A family service was held. A gathering in celebration of her life is being planned for next summer on her beloved Whidbey Island. Remembrances in memory of her life may be made to: Home Health Care & Hospice of Whidbey General Hospital, 101 N. Main, Coupeville, WA 98239 or the charity of your choice. Arrangements under the direction of Burley Funeral Chapel.
