Patricia “Pat” R. Schnell, 65, long time resident of Burlington, passed away July 2, 2005 at the family home after a brief illness.
She was born Sept. 1, 1939 in Seattle, to the late Hazel M. Gianelli and Ernest P. Mitchell. She was raised by her mother and step-father, Andrew Gianelli, in Burlington.
Pat graduated from Burlington-Edison High School in 1957 and until her death shared an amazing friendship with her classmates. She worked as a dental assistant for many years starting in Seattle but most notably with the late Dr. Robert Poole, and then with Dr. Perry Hatcher. Prior to her retirement in 2000 she worked at the Skagit Valley Medical Center as a medical receptionist. Since her “retirement” she had been delivering flowers with her husband for Melody’s Flowers and More in Burlington.
On July 27, 1962, she married Francis “Fran” L. Schnell at the Burlington Lutheran Church. They lived in Burlington until 1972 when they moved to Oak Harbor for the next seven years. In 1979 they relocated back to Burlington and there she remained until her death.
Pat was a member of the Burlington Lutheran Church. Her hobbies included “assisting” Fran in their woodworking business, Fran and Pat’s Woodcrafts. She rarely missed any school or sport function that involved her grandkids, which included soccer, baseball, football, basketball, dance recitals, school plays, and concerts.
Pat is survived by her husband of 42 years, Fran, at the family home; her daughter and her husband, Tami and Terry Allen of Sedro-Woolley; a son and his wife, Don and Maureen Schnell of Maple Valley; a stepson and his wife, Darwin and Angela Schnell of Tracyton, Wash.; ten grandchildren, Ian, Jesse, and Lukas Strinden of Sedro-Woolley, Alyssa and Halle Schnell of Maple Valley, Kyle, Tyler and Cameron Schnell of Tracyton, Wash; two step-grandchildren, Kevin Allen of Sedro-Woolley, and Kari Allen of Maryland; an uncle and his wife, Wayne and Doris Reed of Oak Harbor; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents, one brother, Donald Johnson, and numerous aunts and uncles.
Visitation was held July 7 and 8 at Hulbush Funeral Home, Burlington.
A committal service was held July 9 followed by memorial services at Burlington Lutheran Church.
Remembrances are suggested to Burlington Lutheran Church, 134 East Victoria Avenue, Burlington, WA 98233 or Skagit Hospice Foundation, 2031A Hospital Drive, Sedro-Woolley, WA 98284.
The family would like to thank all those friends and classmates that sent cards and flowers, and spent time visiting Pat.
