Ona Joan Richardson, 74, died at her home in Coupeville, on Oct. 14, 2005. She was born July 18, 1931 in South Dansville, N.Y. to DeWitt M. and Reah L. (Whitenack) Sherwood.
Ona was raised in Hornell, N.Y. After high school, she attended Alfred University in Alfred, N.Y., receiving her Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry. She was married to Donald G. Richardson in Hornell on August 29, 1953. Their first child, Debra, was born in Hornell. The family moved on to Broadbrook, Conn., Rockville and Bolton, Conn., where Sherry and Paul were born.
The Richardson family settled in Stuart, Fla., for a time and Ona became a real estate agent. They traveled on to San Diego and in 1997, settled in Coupeville.
Ona was part of local investment club on the island for a time. She enjoyed at work, painting and beadwork. Her passion in life was her family.
Ona is survived by her husband Donald of Greenbank, three children and their spouses: Debra Richardson and husband Russell Ernest of Greenbank, Sherry Richardson and husband James Montague of Bellevue and DeWitt Sherwood of Portland, Ore.; one sister, Verlie Davies of Hornell, N.Y.; and three brothers, Edward Sherwood of Townsend, Mont., DeWitt Sherwood of Portland, and Charles Sherwood of Oak View, Calif.; and two grandchildren, Simon and Hannah Montague of Bellevue, Wash., also survive.
Cremation was held with private family services. Interment will follow at Sunnyside Cemetery, Coupeville at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to Burley Funeral Chapel, Oak Harbor.
