Norma C. Scribner, 85, was born Nov. 25, 1919, in Seattle; she passed away March 13, 2005 in Mount Vernon.
Survivors include her daughters, Sue (Kjell) Askevold of Bothell, Carol (Tim) Foley of Spokane, and Connie (Tim) Schmidt of Stanwood; sons, Tom Scribner of New Braunfels, Texas, and Bob (Linda) Scribner of Mukilteo; 18 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Jim Richstad; sisters, Ruth Scanlan, Rita Roselli and Carol Eastlick; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Wood.
Norma graduated from the University of Washington and worked for the Seattle Parks Department at various playgrounds. She and her husband, Harry, moved to Whidbey Island in the early 1950’s to raise their family.
Norma loved children and was known to many as Grandma Norma. She helped start Canyon Park Montessori in Bothell where she taught for several years. She has lived in Stanwood since 1994, first with family and then at Josephine Sunset Home for the past four years. She was a member of the Wheelchair Drill Team which performed in local parades. Norma enjoyed reading, Mariner games, talking with friends, bird watching and going places. Her greatest love was watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow. She loved life. Norma was dearly loved and will be deeply missed. A memorial service will be held Thursday, March 24, at 4 p.m., at Josephine Sunset Home, 9901 272nd Place NW, Stanwood WA 98292.
