Michael Fleming

Michael William Fleming, 52, died of accidental drowning on July 24, 2005 in Skagit County. He was born August 14, 1952 in Bremerton to Charles Wilford and Delphine (Teixeira) Fleming.

Michael attended elementary school in Oak Harbor and then followed his father’s military moves to New Mexico, Guam, Okinawa, Kansas, California and Washington State. He graduated from high school in Chula Vista, Calif., in 1971.

Michael was an accomplished musician, writing his own music and playing the harmonica, guitar, trumpet, piano and drums. He loved art, traveling, writing poetry and gardening.

Michael is survived by his parents, Charles and Delphine Fleming of Oak Harbor; six brothers and sisters and their spouses: Barbara and Eddie Equires of Honolulu, Hawaii; Janice and Guy Valencia of Santa Barbara, Calif.; Robert and Val Mowers of Scottsdale, Ariz.; Sharon and Charlie Varona of Birmingham, Ala.; Arlene and Carl DiQuollo of Virginia Beach, Va.; and Scott and Mary Ann Fleming of Langley. One son Michael Scott Fleming and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, Aug. 10, at 1 p.m. at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church, Oak Harbor, with Rev. Marc Powell as Celebrant. Rites of Committal will follow at Maple Leaf Cemetery. A reception for family and friends will follow at the Parish Hall at St. Augustine’s Church. A Vigil Service was held at St. Augustine’s on Aug. 9. Memorials may be made to St. Augustine’s Church Food Bank. Arrangements are entrusted to Burley Funeral Chapel, Oak Harbor.
