Maxine Roberta Sears

Maxine Roberta Sears, 89, of Oak Harbor, died Feb. 13, 2007, in Coupeville. She was born in Auburn Township, Ohio, near Sugar Creek, on July 17, 1917, to Joseph Edward and Zella May (Dutton) Edie. She and her twin brother were in the middle of six children who, at a young age, were placed in Tuscarawas County Children’s Home. Maxine graduated from Dover High School, and then was hired as a housekeeper.

On Jan. 12, 1940, she married Roy Glenn Sears in Dover, Ohio. After his service in the Army, Roy and Maxine traveled all over the world while he was with the Foreign Service, before settling in Oak Harbor in 1978.

Maxine was passionate about genealogy, and was a member of WIGS. She also enjoyed sewing, knitting, needlecraft, and gardening. She was an avid reader and history buff. Before her husband passed away in 1991, they were “snowbirds” and spent their winters in Yuma, Ariz.

She is survived by her son Charles G. Sears of Anacortes; daughters Debra Sears Farmer and Jeanne Sears Valdez of Oak Harbor; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and her twin brother Robert Max Edie of Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her husband; both parents; brothers Donald, Adrian and Darrel Edie, and sister Frieda Mae Johnson.

Viewing and visitation were held Friday. Funeral services are Saturday, Feb. 17 at 10:30 a.m., at Burley Funeral Chapel in Oak Harbor.
