A Memorial Service for Maxine Doman, 93, of Oak Harbor, will be at the Oak Harbor Southern Baptist Church on Saturday, May 19, at 1 p.m.
Maxine died on Monday, May 7, 2012. She was cremated, with private interment following at Maple Leaf Cemetery. Mrs. Doman was born May 20, 1918, in Choice, Texas, the ninth child of Scott and Helen Duncan. She came to Oak Harbor in 1954 with her Navy husband George (deceased) and their two sons. They cleared land and built a house on Dugualla Bay Road.
Maxine has been a community activist for over 40 years. Her community activities include participation in PTA, Toastmistress Club, Democratic Party, Chamber of Commerce, Business and Professional Women’s Club, Oak Harbor Garden Club, AARP, Oak Harbor Senior Center and the Southern Baptist Church, where she was the last charter member still attending. She also started and managed a business to welcome newcomers to Oak Harbor, called Welcome Aboard, and sold Christmas trees from her own farm on Dugualla Bay.
Mrs. Doman is survived by two sons, Jim and wife Kathy of Kent and Scott and wife Shirley of Mount Vernon; grandson Peter and wife Tonya; and two great grandsons, Lucas and Jacob of Everett.
