Maudie Marlow Edwards

Graveside services for Maudie Edwards will be held today, Saturday, July 13, at 3 p.m. at Sunnyside Cemetery, Coupeville. Memorial services will follow at First United Methodist Church in Oak Harbor, Rev. David Lura officiating.

Maudie Edwards, 87, died at Fairhaven adult family home July 10, 2002. She was born Jan. 16, 1915, in Putnam, Tenn., to Minnie and William Edmonds. In 1934, she married Bethel Marlow and the day after her wedding left Tennessee for Ventura, Calif. The Marlows spent the next 44 years in Ventura. Mr. Marlow died in 1978 and Maudie moved to Coupeville to be near her daughter, Virginia Moon.

Maudie enjoyed 87 wonderful years of life. She was married three times to husbands whom she cared for dearly and who loved her devotedly. Two husbands, Bethel Marlow and Donovan Day, precded her in death. She was married to Willard Edwards in Coupeville on Feb. 12, 1988, and they danced together for 14 years. Maudie loved to dance, having danced the Charleston before her first marriage. Her second husband taught her ballroom steps and she danced until the last few months of her life. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Oak Harbor.

Maudie is survived by her husband Willard Edwards at Fairhaven; son-in-law John Moon and wife Wendy of Coupeville; five grandchildren, Martin Moon and wife Marylou of Wapiti, Wyo., Daniel Moon of Richland, Maxann Hadsall and husband Jim of Sparks, Nev., Doretta Pratt and husband Dave of Duvall, Lori Martin of Shamrock, Texas; and by 11 great-grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. One sister, Jewell Helms of Cookeville, Tenn.; one sister-in-law, Polly Edmonds of Dickson, Tenn.; and one niece, Edeen Kirschner and husband Harry of Seattle, also survive her. Her daughter Virginia Moon died in 1997.
