Mary Ann Turley, 87, passed away peacefully April 17, 2006, never fully recovering from complications of a stroke.
Mary spent over 30 wonderful years on Whidbey Island after retiring as a grocery clerk with Albertsons. Actively involved at the Useless Bay Country Club, the Hospital Guild and Senior Citizen Center, she made many friends.
Born in Superior, Wis., Oct. 4, 1918 to Zygmunt and Anilea Kolakowski, she eventually moved to Bellingham. She is preceded in death by her first husband, Ernest Allen Wirts, son Thomas Wirts, daughter Barbara Hansen, and late husband James Turley.
“Nanny” is survived by four grandchildren, Kimberly Jacobson, Kathi Iverson Yount, Kristie Amsberry, and John Wirts and several great-grandchildren. She spent her life devoted to her family, full of love, laughter and care. She will be missed greatly.
A celebration of life service was held April 21 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Freeland. Arrangements by Hawthorne Funeral Home, Mount Vernon.
