Martha Kathalene “Marty” Jones, 82, died Nov. 12, 2008, at Careage of Whidbey. She was born March 20, 1926, in Huntington Beach, Calif., to Charles and Orpha Dennis.
Marty was raised in California, Brownsville, Ore., and Seattle. She and her twin sister, Mary, were part of a family of 13 children. She was married to Earl Jones in Seattle on Dec. 19, 1945. She and Earl had two daughters, Kay and Kim. Earl preceded her in death.
Marty began work for Boeing in Seattle at age 17 and retired in her early 60s as an electronics technician. She lived in Burien for many years. She met her longtime companion, Ed Chaput, and they spent time between Burien and Coupeville. Marty loved to travel and had the pleasure of visiting Asia, Europe, South America and the United States. She belonged to “Friendship Force,” an international travel group, who enjoyed sharing homes with each other as they visited each community or country. Marty was also involved with the Coupeville Lions Club for many years. She was known for her wonderful pies.
Marty is survived by her daughters, Kay Hodgson of Friday Harbor and Kim Perantie, and one sister, Vivian Boulanger of Silverdale.
Marty requested no formal funeral services be conducted. Cremation was held with private family inurnment to follow. Arrangements are entrusted to Burley Funeral Chapel, Oak Harbor.
