Marion Herring

Marion L. Herring, 89, eight-year resident of Oak Harbor, died at Oak Harbor Retirement Center Memory Care on Jan. 3, 2003.

Mrs. Herring was born in San Francisco on Nov. 15, 1913, to Anselm J. Doyle and Bridget Gertrude (Maloney) Doyle. As a small child, Marion moved with her family to Seattle. She attended Seattle schools, graduating from Garfield High School. She was married to William Douglas Herring on March 5, 1938, in Seattle. She was employed for many years as a pharmacy assistant for Pay ‘n Save, and was a member of the Retail Druggists Union. She and her husband were residents of the Fauntleroy area of West Seattle, and were active members of Holy Family Parish for many years. They were also members of the Merry Rounders, a dance and social club in West Seattle. The couple wintered in Hemet, Calif.

In November 1994, Marion moved to Oak Harbor to be near her daughter. She attended St. Augustine’s Catholic Church. She enjoyed walking, reading, and was also interested in current affairs and politics. She loved close and extended family very much.

Marion is survived by her daughter Barbara Eaton and husband Larry of Oak Harbor; by one son Douglas Herring Sr. and wife Joy of Port Ludlow; six grandchildren, Melinda Meier and husband Kevin of Redwood City, Calif., Douglas Hall and fiancee Shelley of Colorado Springs, Colo., Douglas Herring Jr. of Seattle, Daniel Eaton of Oak Harbor, Laura Meyer and husband Ross of Bellingham, and Patrick Eaton and wife Heather of Oak Harbor; four great-grandchildren, Madelyn and Nicholas Meier, Kayla and Andrew Eaton; one sister, Patricia Wear of Sedro-Woolley; also, numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband on July 7, 1982 and by four sisters and one brother.
