Margaret Sue ‘Peggy’ Paquin

Peggy Paquin, 90, died at Harborview Medical Center on Jan. 30, 2007. She was born August 6, 1916, in Topeka, Kansas, to William E. and Frances Howe. She graduated from Topeka High School and went on to study at Washburn College and Strickler’s Business College.

In March of 1943 Peggy married Leo Paquin in Topeka. In 1945, they moved to Whidbey Island where she went to work for Civil Service. She worked a total of 30 years for Civil Service, retiring in 1975 as the payroll supervisor for NAS Whidbey.

Peggy will be most remembered for her work with the Emblem Club #450 in Oak Harbor. She was the Founding President of the club that started in 1964 and was very active in the club until her death. She also loved to travel with Leo while he was the state president of the Elks, sometimes it was many hard days on the road, but she was a trooper and seemed to thrive on it.

Besides traveling, Peggy loved to entertain in their home and along with that was her love of cooking. It is said by many that her laugh and smile could light up a room. She was also a very modern person — when she wasn’t entertaining she was on her computer, searching the Internet or writing e-mails to her friends.

Peggy was a member of Alpha Sorority, Past President of Emblem Club #132 of Anacortes, Past District Deputy of Emblem Club, Past Supreme Press Correspondent and Past District Supreme Chaplain for Emblem Club.

Peggy is survived by her husband Leo at the family home in Oak Harbor, along with special friends Marc and Liz deLeuze and their extended Elks Club family.

A memorial service for Peggy will be held at the Oak Harbor Elks Lodge on Tuesday, Feb. 6, at 1 p.m., with a reception immediately following. The family suggests that friends may want to contribute to The Oak Harbor Emblem Club # 450 or the charity of their choice in Peggy’s name in lieu of flowers. Arrangements were entrusted to Burley Funeral Chapel.
