Luella Goldie “Lou” McGregor died at Whidbey General Hospital on April 8, 2006 at the age 83. Born on July 5, 1922 in Hoquiam, to Charles Raymond and Goldie Bell (Southworth) Wilkerson, she was raised in Hoquiam and graduated from Hoquiam High School.
Lou was married to Craig Earl McGregor in Seattle on March 27, 1940. They moved to Aberdeen after their marriage and raised their two children, Gary and Janet. Lou was a stay at home mom. Craig owned and operated his own log truck and also a stick mill and a shake mill.
In 1968 the McGregors sold their businesses and moved to Moclips, where they owned and operated another shake mill. They sold that mill and in 1973, moved to Whidbey Island. Craig and son Gary built and developed Technical Services Inc. in Oak Harbor.
Lou was devoted to her children and always took an active interest in their lives as they were growing up. She always welcomed Gary and Janet’s friends into their home and made them feel as if they were a part of the family.
Lou had many interests throughout her life. Some of her notable hobbies included gardening, rug braiding and golf. She devoted considerable time to her interests and hobbies.
Lou struggled with the passing of her son Gary in August of 1986 and her husband Craig in October of 1988. Eventually those losses resulted in a closer bond between Lou and her daughter Janet. Lou was an extremely strong and stubborn woman, which enabled her to live out the last years of her life at home, along the waterfront of Admiralty Bay where she could watch the ships going in and out of Puget Sound.
Lou is survived by her daughter Janet McGregor of Coupeville; one daughter-in-law Pepper McGregor of Oak Harbor and by four grandchildren: Pamela Sepstrup White, Denise Carol Bowden, Jennifer Lynn Krueger and Craig Dee McGregor, and nine great grandchildren.
Graveside funeral services for Lou McGregor will be held on Saturday, April 15, at 11 a.m. at Sunnyside Cemetery, Coupeville. Arrangements are entrusted to Burley Funeral Chapel, Oak Harbor.
