Lucy Carlson

Lucy E. Carlson, 84, died at Whidbey General Hospital on May 16, 2002, following a sudden illness.

She was born in Minneapolis on July 23, 1917, to Carl Hermann and Mertilla (Russler) Peterson.

Mrs. Carlson had served as church organist at churches for over 50 years. As a church organist she met her husband, Robert W. Carlson, who was the director of the choir. They were married in Long Beach, Calif., on Aug. 23, 1962. They moved to Clinton in 1967. Mrs. Carlson had been a church organist for St. Peter’s Lutheran Church of Clinton, Trinity Lutheran Church of Freeland and St. Augustine’s-in-the-Woods Episcopal Church of Freeland.

Mrs. Carlson is survived by her husband, Robert W. Carlson of Freeland; four children, Diane Murray of Mexico, Ronald C. Herman of Seattle, Richard Hermann of Bellingham and Ronald Carlson of Bothell; seven grandchildren and one great-grandson. She is also survived by a brother, Carl Peterson and his wife, Gloria, of Minneapolis; sisters, Leona Rushmeier also of Minneapolis and Marian Peterson and her husband Richard of Burien; and nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at St. Augustine’s-in-the-Woods Episcopal Church, on Thursday, May 23, at 3 p.m. with Rev. Nigel Taber, Rev. Mikel Husted and Rev. Paul Benz officiating. Inurnment will be held at the church’s columbarium. Arrangements are by Burley Funeral Chapel.
