Lt. Col Charles Z. Renegar Jr.

Lt. Col. Charles Z. Renegar, Jr., USAF (Ret.), 82, longtime resident of Oak Harbor, died at Choice Care Adult Family Home in Bothell June 26, 2002.

Mr. Renegar was born in Okmulgee, Okla., on Nov. 17, 1919, to Charles Z. Renegar, Sr. and Stella (Thomas) Renegar. He was raised in Okmulgee, where he graduated from high school. Following high school, he entered the Army Air Corps, and served his country during World War II. He dedicated 24 years of his life to serving in the United States Air Force, retiring with the rank of lieutenant colonel. During his military career, he also served in the Strategic Air Command (SAC).

Charles was married for 58 years to Laura Jean Rebold. Following his retirement from the Air Force, he attended Whitworth College where he received his B.A. degree in education. He moved to Whidbey Island in 1967, and taught for 16 years at Oak Harbor Junior High School.

He was a member of the Oak Harbor United Methodist Church, where he served as the building chairman for Centennial Hall. Charles loved woodworking. He assisted in building the family home in Oak Harbor and built a gazebo on the property himself. He loved to travel with his wife, and they visited many places around the world, including Egypt, Spain, Portugal and the United Kingdom together. Charles was completely devoted to his wife, especially during her illness.

He is survived by his three children, Thomas Renegar and wife Darian of Auburn, Calif.; James Renegar and Laura Super, both of Seattle; two grandchildren, Stacey and Julie Renegar; also, his sister, Louise Mount of Oklahoma City, Okla. He was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Jean, Nov. 26, 2000.

A graveside service will be Tuesday, July 2 at 1 p.m., at Maple Leaf Cemetery, Pastor David Lura officiating. Military honors will follow under the auspices of the McChord Air Force Base Honor Guard. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 6315 A & B Fleming, Everett, WA 98203, or to the Oak Harbor United Methodist Church.
