Louis C. (LC) Logan passed away in his home on March 18, 2016, at the age of 98.
He was born April 17, 1917, in Cotton Valley, La., to Miles C. and Gennie Ray Logan.
He left home at age 16 and drove trucks in the oil fields.
On April 17, 1939, he married his beloved Leona Phillips and they were married for 59 years.
On Sept. 22, 1942, he joined the U.S. Navy. Following basic training and schooling, he served in both the European and Pacific Theaters aboard the USS Tulagi (CVE 72) during World War II.
Upon his discharge on Oct. 19, 1945, he became a resident of Oak Harbor and lived and worked here for 71 years.
He was a plank owner for the Oak Harbor VFW Post 7392.
LC owned several businesses during his working career in Oak Harbor, his last being Logan’s Welding. His slogan was, “We Weld Anything — Broken Hearts, Too”; and, he was a co-developer of L&M Acres.
LC loved to hunt, fish, garden, plant dahlias, bake, tell stories about growing up in Louisiana and help people.
He would generously deliver bouquets of flowers or fresh baked muffins to friends and acquaintances in and around Oak Harbor.
He also loved his Boston Terriers (bulldogs as LC called them).
Hobo was LC’s 16th and last bulldog. LC was loved in the community, and one can only hope we all leave such a legacy. He will be missed by all his family and friends.
LC is survived by his niece Jeri Thompson Kouns of Shreveport, La., great-nephew Sinclair B. Kouns Jr. and family of Baton Rouge, La., and several great-great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Leona, his parents and two sisters.
LC’s family would like to thank his dear friend and business partner of 49 years, Bill Massey, and Ron Wagoner, who LC referred to as his “right hand man,” for their generous love and support over many decades.
They would also like to thank LC’s friends, caregivers and Home Health Care & Hospice of Whidbey General Hospital for the wonderful care they gave him. One can only hope when their time comes to be loved and have such acts of kindness bestowed upon them.
A celebration of LC’s life will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, March 28, at Burley Funeral Chapel, 30 SE Ely Street, Oak Harbor, WA.
The family requests donations be made to Whidbey Animals’ Improvement Foundation (WAIF), P.O. Box 1108, Coupeville, WA 98239 or Friends of Home Health Care (hospice), 101 N Main Street, Coupeville, WA 98239.
