Lavelle Swinney Boyd, 77, died Nov. 19, 2008 in Nashville, Tenn. Mrs. Boyd’s oldest daughter, Lisbeth Cort, and her husband Larry live in Coupeville.
Mrs. Boyd was a passionate, lifelong teacher who followed in her father’s footsteps, becoming a school principal later in her career. She cared deeply about her students and colleagues. Mrs. Boyd was married more than 50 years to her best friend and the love of her life, Lorenz Boyd, who preceded her in death. She was the rock and loving support to her younger daughter’s family, and her granddaughters were the light of her life. She instilled confidence in her older daughter to explore new horizons. Her genealogy work was a gift to her family and a favorite hobby. Her stoicism hid a deep love and generosity recognized and appreciated everyday by her family and friends.
Survived by daughters, Lisbeth (Larry) Cort, Lanette Boyd and partner Bethany Reynolds; grandchildren, Loren and Samantha Crosier; sister, Carolyn Swinney. A memorial service will be held at Southminster Presbyterian Church in Nashville on Nov. 22 at 2 p.m., with Rev. John Crawford presiding. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to BC Swinney Elementary, 1431 NW 23rd Street, Lawton, OK 73505 for its first marquee. Woodbine Funeral Home, Hickory Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
