Larry Bernard Anderson, 83 of Oak Harbor, passed away in his sleep on December 2, 2021. Larry was born on October 16, 1938 in Heber, Utah. He was born in the home of his maternal grandmother, Minnie McGuire.
Larry grew up in Utah, where he met the love of his life, Claudia, at sixteen while attending high school in Magna, Utah. After graduation, Larry joined the United States Marine Corps. Larry and Claudia married in 1962. They were blessed with five children, Traci, Cheri, Larry, Sam and Amber.
Larry’s Marine Corps career spanned twenty two years. He was stationed in California, Tennessee, Washington, Okinawa Japan, and North Carolina. His time stationed on aircraft carriers enabled him to see parts of Europe. Larry served on helicopter crews during the Vietnam War. He earned the United States Marine Air Medal for 31 missions. Larry retired in 1979 and move the family back to Whidbey Island, Washington.
Larry loved cars and motorcycles. He and Claudia joined a Gold Wing club. They had great times riding the motorcycle around the Pacific Northwest. Larry also enjoyed shooting guns. While in the Marines, he was a member of the Rifle and Pistol team. He would travel to tournaments where he earned many trophies and medals. Larry’s other hobbies included gardening, photography, fishing, boating, trains, and his dogs. Most of all, Larry liked spending time with his family.
Larry was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Larry was preceded in death by his mother, Clara Anderson and his fathers, Ray Anderson and Robert Trent.
He is survived by his wife of fifty nine years, Claudia Anderson; his children Traci (John) Jones of Oak Harbor, Cheri(Dallas) Bower of Sedro-Woolley, Larry(Lisa) Anderson of Yelm, Sam Anderson of Lacey, and Amber(Kerry) Reed of Oak Harbor; his grandchildren Darren(Elly) Bowden, Crystal(Jeremy) Hurst, Ariel(Nick) Maras, Alexander(Angela) Bower, Alleana Bower, Jayden, Austin, and Noah Anderson, Mikhaila and Andrew Reed; his great grandchildren Madelynn Hurst, Matthew, Isabella, and Scarlett Bowden, and Rosie Bower; his brother, Robert Trent Jr and his sisters Kathleen Day and Cindi Trent.
