Langdon Andrew Chamberlain, 55, died May 15, 2005 in Oak Harbor. He was born Dec. 1, 1949 in Atlanta, Ga., to William Clinton Johnson-Chamberlain and Dorothy Jones Chamberlain.
Langdon lived in Chevy-Chase, Md., from 1962 to 1968. He was a member of the Sea Explorers Post, manager of the soccer team, member of the rowing team and Lettermen’s Club.
Langdon graduated Chevy-Chase High School with the Class of 1968. He was on the delayed entry program for military service and in January of 1969, joined the United States Navy. He completed his basic training at Great Lakes Naval Training Center.
In 1973, Langdon left the Navy. His final duty station was aboard the USS Midway. Langdon had a love of water and sailing, and for the next 12 years worked for Sailmakers, Clarke Boats and the Sailing Shop, all in North Carolina. On Dec. 25, 1986, he re-enlisted in the Navy.
Langdon had various duty stations throughout the Navy. He was assigned to VR-61 and sent to NAS Whidbey Island in March of 1995. He retired from the Navy as a First Class Petty Officer on June 30, 2000. Langdon attended Skagit Valley College, Marine Maintenance Program. West Marine of Anacortes employed him at the time of his death.
Langdon loved boats and sailing. Most of his life had been focused on water and opportunities to enjoy it. He was also a stamp and coin collector. He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Non-Commissioned Officers Association and the Fleet Reserve Association.
Langdon is survived by his father William Clinton Johnson-Chamberlain and stepmother Shirley Puls Chamberlain of Hopkinsville, Ky.; by his mother Dorothy J. Chamberlain of Lorton, Va.; by two brothers, Goodloe L. “Lowry” Chamberlain of Anacortes and Paul D. Chamberlain of Spanaway; and four sisters, Olivia L. Chamberlain of Bellevue, Nancy Moon of Lorton, Va., Helen L. Reed of Highlands, N.C., and Gilmer L. “Gilli” Blewett of Jacksonville, Fla.
A Celebration of Life for Langdon was June 5 at the Oak Harbor Yacht Club, with honors provided by the NAS Whidbey Island Honor Guard. Cremation was held with private family inurnment. Arrangements were entrusted to Burley Funeral Chapel, Oak Harbor.
