Kermit Harold Wright, 82, 13-year resident of Oak Harbor, died at Island Hospital in Anacortes on August 28, 2005.
Mr. Wright was born in Rombauer, Mo., on Nov. 17, 1922, to Clarence E. Wright and Joanna (Lorton) Wright. He was raised in Missouri, moving to Toppenish in 1937, where he graduated from high school. Following high school graduation he entered the U.S. Army and served during World War II, being a participant in the Normandy Invasion.
Kermit married Matilda Elizabeth “Betty” Hormell on Sept. 18, 1949, in Bremerton. The couple resided in Kennewick for 10 years, and then moved to Sacramento, Calif., where they lived for 30 years. While in Sacramento, Kermit was employed as a fiberglass technician at McClellan Air Force Base, a position from which he retired in 1980. They moved to Oak Harbor in 1992.
Kermit was a member of the Capital City Lodge, F&AM of Sacramento, and just recently transferred his membership to the Whidby Island Lodge No. 15, F&AM. He enjoyed jig-saw puzzles, computers, fishing, hunting and bowling.
Kermit is survived by his wife Betty, at home; five children, Mary Jo Boylon and husband Bill of Oak Harbor, Pam Enos and husband Larry of Elk Grove, Calif., Thomas Wright of Yountville, Calif., Kathleen Wagner and husband Larry of Fair Oaks, Calif., and Susan Elias and husband David of Benicia, Calif.; four grandchildren, Brandee Jo Dixon of Elk Grove, Cory Enos and his wife Sioux of Sacramento, Pam Zientek of Federal Way and Matthew Elias of Benicia; two great-grandchildren, Kaylee and Cody; also, several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister Clemma and a brother Tom.
In keeping with his wishes, no services will be held. Inurnment will be private. Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, c/o Nile Temple, A.A.O.N.M.S., 6601 244th St. S.W., Mountlake Terrace, WA 98043-2750, or to a favorite charity.
