Kenneth Lee “Gundar” McCollum

Kenneth Lee McCollum, “Gundar,” age 82, died of cancer in his home in Coupeville, surrounded by his loving family, on June 20.

Kenneth is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Joan McCollum of Coupeville; his children, Kim McCollum, Michele Bonstel and Michael McCollum; his siblings, Donna Rector and Jerry McCollum; grandchildren, Glynda Maddaleno, Logan, Aaron and Ryan Gendernalik, Magen, Garett and Jacob McCollum; and eight great-grandchildren.

Kenneth was born on Aug. 16, 1932 in Santa Maria, Calif. to Phil and Kathryn McCollum.

He graduated from Santa Maria High School.

In 1954, he married Joan McCollum, his high school sweetheart.

Kenneth started his career as a mechanic and advanced to Vehical Inspector for the State of California. In retirement, he enjoyed collecting and building Model A cars, swap meets and garage sales.

He belonged to the Whidbey Island A’s, The Old Car Breakfast Club, the Dragons Dragstrip Club of Santa Maria Calif., the Lions Club and the Elks Lodge.

Kenneth will be loved and missed by all who knew him. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, July 11, at the Elks Lodge, Oak Harbor, with a reception to follow. “So many swap meets so little time.”
