Kenneth Edward Lange

Kenneth Edward Lange, AMCS, USN (Ret.) died May 21, 2010 at Harborview Medical Center, Seattle, from injuries received in an automobile accident. Ken was born Dec. 2, 1921 to William and Florence (Warren) Lange in Sumner, Iowa.

Ken was raised in Utah. Ken enlisted in the U.S. Navy in July 1942. He was married to Betty Taylor on Oct. 26, 1944 in Corpus Christi, Texas. Ken’s naval career sent him to Corpus Christi, Virginia, California, Morocco, several cruises and finally to Whidbey Island Naval Air Station in the early 1970s. Ken retired in 1974, as an AMCS (E-8) with over 32 years of military service. Ken was a veteran of WWII, Korea and Vietnam.

Following his retirement from the Navy, Ken began a second career with Civil Service, working on torpedoes at the Bangor Submarine Base. He retired from Civil Service after 15 years.

Ken loved sports. He enjoyed football, baseball, fishing, eating out and drives to Seattle. Most recently, his family introduced him to Wrestlemania.

Ken is survived by one daughter, Aimee Herron and husband T.J.; one granddaughter, Shannon Monahan and husband Daniel; and three great-grandchildren, Jacob Jones, Tre’ Herron, and Renee Herron, all of Oak Harbor. His wife Betty, one son Michael, his parents and five brothers and sisters preceded him in death.

Graveside funeral services for Ken Lange will be held on Tuesday, June 1, at 1 p.m. at Maple Leaf Cemetery, Oak Harbor with Pastor Cliff Horr officiating. Full military honors will follow under the auspices of the NAS Whidbey Honor Guard. Memorials may be made to the DAV Chapter 47, P.O. Box 296, Oak Harbor, WA. 98277.
