Kenneth Albin Newsham

Kenneth A. Newsham was born Jan. 26, 1924 to Albin Ernest and Mary (Purse) Newsham in Seattle and entered into rest Jan. 13, 2007 at the age of 82, just shy of his 83rd birthday in Coupeville.

Ken served his country during WWII in the South Pacific in the U.S. Navy. Ken entered into marriage with Angela Jones Alderson in May of 1947; she survives him. They were blessed with two children. Ken worked for many years for the Seattle Public School District in the custodial/maintenance department; retiring as a supervisor of operations for that department in 1977.

Ken was an active member of the Central Whidbey Lions Club and avid member of the Washington State Public School Employees Association. Ken was involved in serving his community in many ways, being active in the Whidbey Island Food Bank and Admirals Cove Water District. Ken’s hobbies included gardening, model HO trains, metal model cars that dated between 1920 and 1950, and he was an avid reader of politics and history, and also involved in local politics with the Democratic Party for many years.

Ken is survived by his loving family, his wife and partner of 60 years Angela at the family home; children Dick Newsham and his wife Sue, Jodie McAninch, grandchildren Samantha Peterson and her husband John, Ricky McAninch, Christine McAninch, numerous nieces and nephews, and the many friends he made in his life who will also miss him dearly. Ken was predeceased by his siblings.

A private celebration of Ken’s life is planned. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Affordable Burial & Cremation Services, LLC of Mount Vernon. Cards of condolence may be sent to Ken’s family in care of the funeral home.
