Julie Hopper Paredes, a loving mother, devout Christian with a kind and generous soul, who deeply touched everyone who crossed her path. Julie was born May 8, 1961, at the Naval Hospital in Bethesda, Md.; passed away Dec. 31, 2004, after a long battle with cancer.
Julie, being raised in a military family, had the opportunity to see and live in a variety of places in the United States. Early elementary age, they lived in Sanford, Fla.; moving up the coast to Virginia for middle school. Junior high was spent in Oak Harbor; then back across the country to graduate high school in 1979 in Virginia. The family moved back to the West Coast, where Julie attended Western Washington University and eventually graduated from Central Washington University in 1985, with a degree in advertising and marketing that she helped design. Her business path led her toward the radio field, in which she had both marketing and advertising successes.
Julie married Doctor Daniel Ruiz Parades in 1987 at the Naval chapel in Oak Harbor. They made their first home in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico for two-and-a-half-years, returning to the Portland area. Their first daughter, Mollie Maria, was born in Coupeville, May 29, 1988; Katia Renee, born Feb. 14, 1992, in Portland, Ore.; and lastly, Keith Richard born Aug. 27, 1997. Julie and their family lived in University Place, Wash.
Julie is survived by her husband and children, also her parents Richard and Mollie Hopper of Oak Harbor, two brothers, lifelong friend Lola Massey Smith, numerous family and countless friends in the United States and Mexico. A Funeral Mass was held Jan. 4, at St. Mary’s Parish, Tacoma. A celebration of Julie’s life was held at New Tacoma Cemetery and Funeral Home, University Place, immediately following the mass.
